HALIBURTON

COUNTY

It's This Easy to Make a Difference in Our Community!

Our History

The first 100 Women Who Care group was formed in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, USA. At their first one-hour meeting, the Jackson 100 Women Who Care group raised $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city! Their membership has now grown to nearly 300 members and other cities across United States and Canada continue to form their own giving circles.

The first Canadian Chapter of 100 Women Who Care was started in 2012 by Toronto lawyer Jennifer Wootton Regan. There are now 52 Chapters across the country and numbers are growing! Women have embraced this simple concept that can make a difference to their local communities and provide powerful assistance to the charities that support the people who live there.

Who We Are

100 Women Haliburton County is a giving circle of women from the area of Haliburton, Minden , West Guilford, Gelert, Wilberforce and others, who care about our local community and want to contribute to its wellbeing, vitality and people.

Three times a year, we will meet for one hour and jointly select a local registered charity or not-for-profit organization that will receive a $100 cheque from each of our members (or per team). The members vote that evening for the winning charity and write their cheques to the chosen organization. By joining funds with other like-minded women in our group, we can make a real impact with the potential of $30,000 or more invested in Halibuton County over a 12-month period. Together we can make a huge impact and make a real difference in our community.

How It Works

* Register as an individual (or team of 2) by completing the membership commitment form and return to us by email, drop off or mail.

* Each member (or team) commits to donating $100 per meeting (3 meetings per year)

* Meetings are conducted in one hour or less

* Any member who has signed a Membership Commitment Form and who is current with her donations may submit a Charity Nomination Form to nominate an organization for consideration at a meeting.

* Three charities/organizations will be randomly chosen at each meeting. The nominating members of three randomly selected organizations will make a 5 minute presentation about their chosen charity to the group. There may also be a 5-minute Question & Answer period after each presentation.

* Each member will then vote for one of the three organizations.

* After votes are tallied, each member (or team) will write a cheque for $100 to the organization receiving the most votes and the selected organization will receive a group donation of $10,000!

* Members who did not vote for the selected organization agree to make their donation regardless.

* Members who are unable to attend a meeting are expected to give her cheque to a friend or another member to deliver on her behalf.

* Organizations under consideration must be registered charities or not-for-profit organizations that serve the community of Haliburton County and provide individual tax receipts to contributing members.

* An organization not selected at one meeting may be submitted again at a subsequent meeting.

* A successful organization is not eligible for future consideration for 1 year, but the nominating member may submit the name of another organization.

* Ties will be decided by further votes. If a tie persists, the membership will vote to either (1) randomly select one of the tied organizations by draw, or (2) divide the group donation equally between the tied organizations.

* The selected organization must agree not to give out member information to any third parties except for tax purposes.

* Each meeting will open with a 5 minute update on how the funds donated at the previous meeting were used by the successful organization.

Talking
Tips

The most effective way to sell your selected charity is to speak informally and from the heart.  Tell us why this charity is important to you.  Tell us why the charity NEEDS this donation and how it will be used.  The more information you can provide the better, but remember, you only have up to 5 minutes.  Also, cover the basic information which you included on the nomination form....this can be your guide.  After your presentation there will be 2-3 minutes for any questions regarding your nomination.  A personal story and a reason why the charity is important to you makes a great impact.
